Street-level drains

Inspect county-mapped assets at street zoom. Coordinates are published GIS locations, not verified street addresses or survey-exact positions.

Load the inventory to see drains within 1.5 km of the selected sample. Searching checks the whole study area.

Condition and blockages are unknown.

Assessment scope and source

A forecast is a starting point, not a flood prediction.

Flooding also depends on tides, elevation, soil saturation, and drainage. These layers do not confirm an obstructed drain.

Transparent by design

Public data. Clear limits.

This pilot brings together weather forecasts and county infrastructure. Nothing here is a confirmed blockage or a validated flood-risk score.

NOAA / National Weather Service

Quantitative precipitation forecasts for 12 sample locations. Each marker represents a roughly 2.5 km forecast grid cell, not a neighborhood average. Forecasts are collected every 15 minutes while the server runs.

Weather API documentation ↗

Miami-Dade County / FEMA

County-published special flood hazard zones (A and V families). These describe long-term flood exposure, not today's flood extent. Geometry is simplified for display and is not survey-grade.

June 11–13, 2024 measured rainfall

NWS Miami’s published storm totals from multiple reporting networks. Purple circles show point measurements within the study area, not interpolated rainfall or observed flood depths. This historical layer is independent of today’s forecast and does not change when you select a forecast window.

Historical property damage

NOAA / NCEI event 1197198 records $3.86M in Miami-Dade property damage for June 11–12, 2024. This is a reported estimate, not a full economic-loss calculation. The June 12 entry includes both days; it is counted once. No current or street-level loss is inferred.

How rainfall is calculated

NOAA precipitation totals are prorated where a forecast period crosses the selected time window. The 6-hour chart is an approximation, not a prediction of exact rain timing. Missing coverage is shown as unavailable, never as zero. Rainfall categories are descriptive, not flood thresholds.

What comes next

Verified inspection reports and sensor readings, followed by a calibrated flood model and a dispatch workflow. The watchlist in this pilot is saved only in this browser. There are no automatic alerts or truck dispatches yet.

For immediate flood safety guidance, use official NWS advisories. Public APIs require no paid weather subscription. Basemap: © OpenStreetMap contributors. The pilot defaults to OSM’s community-funded raster tile service: best-effort, no SLA. Only visible tiles are requested; no prefetch, bulk downloads, or offline maps. See the tile usage policy.
